ATP was formed by recognizing that small and medium sized companies were being under-served in Information Technology (I.T.). We believe this is due to lack of funding and a lack of proper coverage from manufacturers & vendors. Technology moves at a rapid rate, in many cases too rapid to absorb how new announcements can help you in a cost-effective manner. We quickly learned that this vacuum exists in all companies.

Enter Metcalf's Law. Bob Metcalf, founder of 3-COM Corporation and considered by many to be inventor of Ethernet. He realized a phenomenon that has profound implications for networking. Networks create value, even more as they grow in participation. Every time a node is added to a network the value of that network increases exponentially. Ten nodes standing alone have the value of ten. Connect them via the Internet into a fully meshed paradigm and they now have a value of 100 (10 times 10 ).

Value is construed in a number of ways: more productivity, more collaboration, more knowledge, efficiency, etc. This is why the Internet is considered one of the great inventions in all of history.

But Metcalf was thinking physical networks.
